Of course we know the Lord is our only hope to overcome such problems. God promises us " Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." (1 John 4:4) So the need is to find God's help.
Note the underlined phrases: 'Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; "(Ephesians 5:17-20)
I am not one who listens to music very often, but music does certainly help. It really helps when the old thoughts come to listen to good upbeat spiritual music which hepls keep my thoughts on the Lord. One song that really picks me up is Beulah Land. Several have recorded the song, but I really like Carroll Roberson, also songs by Marty Goetz., and instrumental hymns, especially piano. After listening for a while I find the rest of the day I am singing them in my heart and thanking the Lord.
The same happens when I am reading the Bible, God's word, and also listening the Bible being read helps to calm the spirit. Being thankful and in our prayers thanking Him for all things is also an important key.
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." (Colossians 3:15-17)
Jesus rebuffed Satan "But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men." (Matthew 16:23)
The truth is this problem can be overcome.....with God's help. So in faith, trust God's promises and consider the matter as settled and when the throughts come....turn to the Lord for strength. By the way, certainly Satan was behind the call and the cursing seeking to hurt you and rob you of your peace.... However, see this as the Lord seeking you and an opportunity to get closer to the Lord and let Him direct your life.
What you dwell on in your mind is what will influence your thoughts. Fill your mind with the greatness, love, and mercy of our God and Savior.
