Answer: The sinner's prayer has been greatly abused as I think we all know, however if used correctly it is part of leading a person to Christ. We should be very sensitive to where the person is that we are witnessing to in their understanding, and truly believing the Gospel. We should not say if you pray this prayer God will save you, but rather ask them if they truly believe in Jesus Christ and want to accept Him alone for their Savior. We should explain that saying a simple prayer does not save, but rather their belief and faith in Jesus Christ. It is a good idea to ask them how they feel about this and are they ready to accept Christ or do you need more time. That gives them a way to decline if they are not truly ready to accept Christ, and leaves the door open for them to think it out and when they are, make that decision to response. If they see themselves as sinners and truly want to be saved, they will response and importantly it will be their decision from their heart and not because of any pressure we put on them.
