Jesus is the Word John 1:1, 14 Cooper P. Abrams III |

Introduction: Most believers who know the Bible is called the Word of God. A true believer by faith accepts the Bible as the authority for our faith and practice. That statement if found in biblical church constitutions.
However, there is a true in John 1:1,14 that we sometimes fail to comprehend fully.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:1,14)
Speaking of Jesus Christ Revelation 19:12 records, "And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God."
In 1 John 1:1 "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; "(1 John 1:1) John carries our thoughts beyond the beginning of creation in time to eternity past and present. The Word is Logos. (kai theos n ho logos). The words "God" and "Word" are interchangeable as the construction of the phrase has an "article" before each Word. That is a little technical, but it shows plainly that both are the same.
Note also the verse says the "Word became flesh" not the flesh became God. This means that God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are One, and authenticates the Trinity.
The truth is that Jesus and the Word are the same. He is the Word, yes, the written Word.
We apply this truth in many ways, but one way I think is overlooked. Every Word, jot, or tittle is Jesus Christ. "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled" (Matthew 5:18) We can take great comfort in that statement because it declares God will complete His plan thoroughly.
The Word of God is living and active. "Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. "(Heb. 4:12) Knowing that Jesus is personally the Word we can better understand this verse means. Jesus is infinitely powerful and omniscient and omnipotent. Knowing is impossible with God. Man's silly attempts to deny the Word, pervert it, change it, disregard, deny it is absolutely futile.
When men deny the Word, pervert it, change it, disregard, or try to rewrite is, mistranslate it....it is a personal attack on the person of Jesus Christ. It degrades our Lord and these false teachers put themselves above God and proclaim they know more than God or put themselves in place of God. They flout God’s authority and truth
How many of these false churches, TV evangelists, self-proclaimed prophets believe this or even know what they are doing when they preach false ideas? The answer is they don't believe the Bible and do not appreciate that Jesus and the Word are ONE.
The Word is the eternal expression of God's mind. It is the very breath of God.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The words "given by inspiration of God" is the Greek Word, θε πνευστος (theo pneustos) meaning God-breathed.
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (2 Peter 1:20-21)
"Moved" is the word "phero (fer-o)" thus, they "spoke from God." It was Jesus Christ inspiring to write His very Word. It is a warning to false prophets who proclaim they are getting revelation from God. God used the men's training and characteristics, but He, knowing their abilities had them write His very Word. God Forcibly moved, acted, carried out of themselves to say, and do what God would have them write.
Conclusion: This should help us in growing to have higher, excellent, and more careful handling of the Word of God the Bible. It should be a strict warning to be careful what we teach and understand is God's Word. My testimony to that principle.
"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (Revelation 22:17-21)
